Koolhas does shoes
Posted on 25/02/10.
When the Dutch architect Rem Koolhas met Galahad Clark, the seventh generation of the Clark’s shoe-making dynasty, a strange new shoe brand was born. United Nude. This shoe, the Eamz is conceptually inspired by a furniture design classic; the Charles and Ray Eames chair. The United Nude Eamz shoe is an ode to their vision. It’s great to see an unusual crossover of disciplines at the intersection between design and fashion; architecture, furniture design and shoe making all creating something familiar but totally unique.

Ten principles for good design: Dieter Rams
Posted on 21/02/10.
Dieter Rams (born May 20, 1932 in Wiesbaden) is a German industrial designer closely associated with the consumer products company Braun and the Functionalist school of industrial design. He once explained his design approach in the phrase “Weniger, aber besser” which freely translates as “Less, but better.” As good design cannot be measured in a finite way he set about expressing the ten most important principles for what he considered was good design.
• Good design is innovative
• Good design makes a product useful
• Good design is aesthetic
• Good design helps us to understand a product
• Good design is unobtrusive
• Good design is honest
• Good design is long-lasting
• Good design is consequent to the last detail
• Good design is concerned with the environment
• Good design is as little design as possible

Our old man’s turntable

This is the Hydraulic Reference Turntable made by Transcriptors in 1964 in England. We grew up with this classic, and a lot of Miles Davis records in the house. Founded in 1960 by the late David Gammon, Transcriptors was one of the World’s leading manufacturer of manual turntables, tone arms and accessories, and one of the most modern Hi Fi manufacturing plants in Europe during the 60’s, 70’s and the early 80’s.

New Coffee

Here in Miami we have recently replaced our old Bialetti Moka Express with this stainless steel gem from Imusa. Now, any Italians should stop reading here… although not such a classic design as the Bialetti, we think this Imusa is more elegant and a far sturdier product… although after a quick google, Bialetti now have a design called the Musa. Anyone know what is going on? Espressos have been replaced by cortaditos here anyway.
