This classic is a book cover for the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam, designed by one of our favourites Wim Crouwel in 1966. It doesn’t get much better than this.
ELSKEN, ED VAN DER - Sweet Life.1966. Cloth-covered boards (hardcover), illustrated dustjacket (with protective mylar), 29 x 29 cms., (32) pp. text in Dutch + 179 fine black-and-white plates in photogravure.

The Swing Era

Posted on 13/04/10.

We just came across this book and its fantastic cover in a local thrift store. A “break” in the Lindy Hop is shown in this high-speed action picture taken in 1943 by LIFE photographer Gjon Mili. Dancers Kaye Popp and Stanley Catron demonstrate the dance, named originally for Lindbergh’s 1927 flight to Paris. Also seen here is another image from the same series. More to come from the great Gjon Mili soon, watch this space.

Looking in a thrift store at the camera section we found this old Polaroid. We have no idea how this image was made but what a serendipitous discovery, because if we would have designed one, it would look exactly like this.

RGB+Y

Sharp once again demonstrates its leadership in LED LCD TVs with its groundbreaking Quattron quad pixel Technology. For the very first time, yellow has been added to the conventional red, green and blue color filter, enabling more colors to be displayed. Introducing never-before-seen colors to LCD TVs, like sparkling golds, Caribbean blues and sunflower yellows without overdriving the panel. This is pretty exciting right? At least George Takei seems to agree with us.

Rothko

Posted on 22/03/10.

This is a rare and insightful glimpse of the late great Mark Rothko in his studio. One of the key figures of mid-20th-century American art, the aim of his paintings was meditation, and he denied that what he produced was “art” - instead labeling it as “communication on an exalted level of experience”. Whatever it was, we like it.

without title 1998, Latexballoon/Air/Museum, 900x550x650cm

This is a great piece by another Hans, German artist Hans Hemmert. He is fascinated by air and creates these huge latex balloons. Hemmert is part of the group Inges Idee, 4 German artists who create various public art projects.

This is something new we are working on at the moment, and thought at this flat (clue) stage it looked quite interesting. More to come soon.
