Helga Steppan

This reminded us of an exploded version of the Michael Johansson work we featured in January. These photos are by fellow Swede Helga Steppan. In her series ‘See Through’ Steppan audited all of her belongings and divided them into a full spectrum of different colour groupings to photograph: White, Black, Yellow, Red, Miscellaneous, Blue, Orange, Green, Pink, Grey, Purple, and Brown. We like this idea of having things chromatically arranged.

Rothko
Posted on 22/03/10.
This is a rare and insightful glimpse of the late great Mark Rothko in his studio. One of the key figures of mid-20th-century American art, the aim of his paintings was meditation, and he denied that what he produced was “art” - instead labeling it as “communication on an exalted level of experience”. Whatever it was, we like it.

New show at Dorsch opening March 13
Posted on 13/03/10.
Here in Miami we just had a sneak peak at these two new shows opening at Dorsch Gallery tonight and they look great. The artists are Elisabeth Condon whose book we worked on last year and Martin Murphy. Also looking great are the templates we created for these mailers, if we do say so ourselves (see our Branding section for more images). Dorsch Gallery have some very exciting shows planned for this year so make sure to keep them bookmarked.

Posted on 04/03/10.
London based art & design practice Troika were commissioned to create a signature piece of sculpture for Terminal 5 at Heathrow.
In response, they created ‘Cloud’, a five meter long digital sculpture whose surface is covered with 4638 flip-dots that can be individually addressed by a computer to animate the entire skin of the sculpture.
Although worth checking if you’re a Mac user is their ‘Newton Virus’...
